Warren man charged with Freedom Twp. Dollar General robbery

FREEDOM TWP., Ohio (WYTV – A Warren man was arrested in relation to an armed robbery at a Dollar General store in Freedom Township.

William J. Miller, 38, is charged with one count of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said Miller entered Dollar General with a handgun around 8 p.m. Monday and demanded money from a clerk. He then drove away from the store in a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot.

No one was harmed during the robbery.

After an investigation, Miller was located and taken into custody. He was incarcerated at the Portage Jail and was scheduled to be arraigned at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Ravenna Courthouse.

Investigators say Miller is also a person of interest in an aggravated robbery that occurred on Friday, March 25 at the Detour Drive Thru, also located in Freedom Township.

Police said Miller has an extensive criminal history, including incarcerations for robbery, felonious assault, abduction and rape. He is on parole for failure to register as a sex offender.
