Restaurants in Champion Twp. not following boil advisory

The Bazetta Township Fire Captain says the precautionary advisory is in place for health reasons

Restaurants in Champion Twp. not following boil advisory

CHAMPION TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – Residents in Champion and Bazetta Townships are being recommended to boil their water before ingesting it after a water main break on Friday. Even so, some restaurants in Champion Township are not following the precautionary advisory.

JD’s Posthouse and Wayside restaurant in Champion said they are still giving customers ice water if they ask for it, despite the alert. Katie’s Korner, an ice cream store in Champion, said they are giving out bottled water because of the alert.

No one at those restaurants wanted to talk to WKBN on camera.

Customers couldn’t believe it, saying they expect restaurants to follow restrictions that are in place.

Bazetta Township Fire Captain Dave Walter says the advisory is in place for health reasons.

“I would encourage them to follow the boil advisory, however, I don’t know if they have a filtering system in place or bottled water. But definitely follow the boil advisory just to make sure no one in your household gets sick, or in your restaurant.”

Walter says he contacted the fire chief in Champion on Sunday. He says the township took water samples, but there won’t be an update until around 3 p.m. on Monday.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story did not specify what, exactly, the three restaurants in Champion mentioned in this article were doing in response to the boil alert. We apologize for any confusion.
