WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – It may be hard to picture, but the top two floors of what was once the YMCA in downtown Warren could soon become prime real estate.
The building’s top two floors have been vacant for about 30 years, but now, Trumbull Family Fitness is looking to remodel its current facility in the building. Officials at Trumbull Family Fitness say they will start surveying Warren residents to determine what to do with the third and fourth floors of the building.
Paulette Edington, director of Trumbull Family Fitness, said there is a separate entrance to the upstairs floors, which were once used to house men who came home from the military.
Some of the suggestions for uses of that part of the building include millennial housing, high-end condos or office space, all with an optimal location — at the corner of High Street and Harmon Avenue, which is walking distance to many of the city’s attractions.
“I think our location is an important location because you have the amphitheater, you have the park, you’re located close to the Courthouse Square. We have the arts right downtown, and we have the Tech Belt that’s right down there,” Edington said.
Edington said they hope to be in talks with developers soon to develop a market study and figure out project costs.
