Car flips and crashes into home – Poland, Ohio


POLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – Thursday afternoon, a car hit a ditch, flipped over and slammed into a house along U.S. 224 in Poland Township.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Lowellville Road. A 2002 Toyota was traveling eastbound on U.S. 224 when it went off the right side of the road striking a culvert, tree and then the house, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Mandee Smiley, of New Castle. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two children in the vehicle were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle’s occupants were trapped inside the vehicle for some time and had to be pried out using the Jaws of Life.

The homeowner said she was standing about five feet from the door when the accident happened. No one in the house was injured.

The car has since been removed from the porch, and the porch has been propped back up. Highway Patrol is investigating.
