YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Mahoning County Commissioners said they are fielding questions from the public concerning the operation of Mill Creek MetroParks.
Commissioners were asked Thursday to put pressure on the park board to join the Ohio Online Checkbook, which voluntarily lists all income and expenditures for government agencies online.
Members of groups such as Friends of Mill Creek Park have been calling for more transparency from park officials and making public records requests, but results have been limited. Chris Peyko, Friends of Mill Creek Park, said they have received some information but is waiting on other documents.
“With an open checkbook policy, we can look at these things without having to ask permission to do so,” Peyko said.
Mahoning County Commissioners said Thursday they plan to meet with park directors before asking them to make any changes to the way they operate.
