Warren woman suffers from cardiac arrest, crashes vehicle


HOWLAND TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – A driver suffered from cardiac arrest and crashed her vehicle on Mines Road in Howland Township Saturday afternoon, according to State Highway Patrol.

OSP says Catherine Smolkovich, 77, of Warren, was traveling eastbound on Mines Road just before 4:30 p.m. when she started experiencing cardiac arrest.

Her vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and struck a fire hydrant. She was wearing a seat belt and didn’t suffer any injuries from the crash.

Howland Township EMS arrived to the scene and confirmed that Smolkovich had suffered from cardiac arrest. They began performing life saving techniques and transported her to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

OSP says Smolkovich is in critical condition.
