Two homes robbed at gunpoint on same street, minutes apart

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Youngstown Police Department is looking for multiple men who investigators believe used guns to rob and burglarize two south side homes Monday night

According to the police report, officers were on their way to another call when a women flagged them down in the 200 block of E. Avondale Ave. around 11:15 p.m. Monday. The victim told officers three men came into her house with guns and took her wallet.

One man, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt with a cartoon character, pointed a gun at her head and grabbed her wallet off the floor. The victim told police the wallet contained her driver’s license, credit cards and $1,000.

The three men involved were in their 20s. One man was described as wearing a white hockey mask. Another man was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a cartoon character on it and black and white Jordan tennis shoes. The third man went by the name of “Joe.”

The woman said the entire robbery was captured on video, which was provided to officers.

A few minutes after the first aggravated burglary, police responded to a house on the opposite side of the street that was also robbed at gunpoint around 11:25 p.m. Monday.

The victim told police she heard a knock on her rear door from someone who told her his name was “James.” She said she let the man in because she believed that he was an acquaintance that she knew named James.

She said “James,” let another man into the home who pointed a gun at her head and told her to get on the couch.

He then asked her if she wanted to die and took her purse and cell phone. The victim said she heard tires squeal after the suspects left, according to the report.

She believed the men may have known she just received a $3,000 insurance check.
