Mahoning chiefs sit down for first regional dispatch meeting

It could take a year to 18 months to full implement the program

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The process of regionalizing police and fire dispatching services took a giant step forward Friday.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene and police chiefs from Boardman and Austintown sat down for the first meeting of the board of the new Mahoning County Joint Dispatching and Communication Commission.

The group will oversee efforts to combine dispatching services for various departments across Mahoning County.

Greene said over time, the combined, regionalized dispatching should save the county about $500,000 per year. He said the it could take a year to 18 months to fully implement the program.
