POLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – The 6th annual Wine for Hope was held at The Lake Club in Poland on Friday.

The event raises money for the Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, a nonprofit organization which supports chronically and terminally ill children.

The highlight of the evening is handing out the H.O.P.E. Lifetime Achievement Award. For the first time, a selection committee picked the winner from nominations submitted.

George Gabriel, who works at the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, was nominated for his work in the community.

“I was surprised. I was nominated for doing a lot of things in the community with our individuals with disabilities,” Gabriel said. “To be honest with you, this is an award that may be given to me, but it’s all about the people that have supported me through the years.”
