YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The process for the construction of the new dog pound is still on schedule, according to Deputy Dog Warden Rick Tunison.
In March, 33 WYTV News reported that the Mahoning County Dog Pound received 22 bids for the construction of the new facility.
The construction should start in the next couple of weeks.
Tunison said the current building is outdated and is not suitable for what the pound is doing for the dogs.
“The roof leaks, the drains are always backed up, there aren’t individual drains for each kennel, there isn’t any air purification exchanges in the building so controlling and preventing disease spread is very hard in this facility,” Tunison said.
The construction for the new facility should be completed by the end of this year.
