New program will provide Trumbull Co. youth with paid jobs


WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A new program for economically disadvantaged youth in Trumbull County will provide eligible applicants with paid work experience this summer.

The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services, OhioMeansJobs Trumbull County and the Trumbull County Board of Commissioners are bringing the 2016 Summer Youth Program to the area.

The program is for high schoolers and young adults aged 15-24, and will run from June 13 through August 5.

Those selected for participation will be paid $8.50 an hour and work 30 hours per week. They will perform a variety of jobs, from maintenance to lawn care.

“It gives them an opportunity to learn some skills and also the work ethic that they will need later on in life,” said Director John Gargano.

Anyone interested in participating in the program can apply in-person. Kids under 18 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Applicants who are 18 and older and not attending high school must be a parent in order to be eligible.

The applicant must present all of the following documentation at the time of application:

  • Social Security card
  • Driver’s license or state ID
  • Birth certificate
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of total gross household income for the past 30 days
  • School attendance

Applications will be collected on the following dates:

  • Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services
  • Wednesday, May 4 at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Niles McKinley High School
  • Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services
  • Tuesday, May 10 at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Brookfield High School
  • Saturday, May 14 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services
  • Wednesday, May 18 at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Girard High School
  • Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services
  • Wednesday, May 25 at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Joseph Badger High School
