Mathews softball suffers first loss of season

The Mustangs generated just two hits in a 1-0 loss to Windham at Firestone Stadium Wednesday.

Akron, OH (WYTV) – The Mathews softball team came in as the No. 4 ranked team in the State, but were dealt their first loss Wednesday to Windham, 1-0 at Firestone Stadium.

The Bombers also came in state-ranked in Division 4 and were impressive from the start. They got on the board in the 1st with an RBI single from Sabrina Garl that scored Brittany Knight.

Knight was just as tough from the circle, throwing 14 strikeouts and allowing just two hits all night. Meredith Grimes and Mariah Hoff had the hits for the Mustangs.

Mathews drops their first game of 2016 (9-1) and play at Grand Valley Thursday. Windham improves to 8-1 overall.
