Youngstown-area priest passes away at 68

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown-area Catholic Priest Nicholas Shori died at the age of 68 Wednesday.

A prayer service was held Wednesday at the Ursuline Motherhouse in Canfield to remember Shori.

Shori was appointed pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in New Middletown in 1993, where he remained until his 2010 appointment as Director of Implementation of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, according to a news release from the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.

The release went on to state that Shori was born March 11, 1948, in Canton. He attended St. Anthony School, Pleasant View and Middlebranch schools.

After two years at Central Catholic High School, he entered the high school division of St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati. He continued his college studies there and progressed to Mount St. Mary of the West Seminary, also in Cincinnati. There, he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1970 and a master’s degree in theology in 1973. He served one year as student body president.

He was ordained June 8, 1974, by the Most Reverend James Malone, Bishop of Youngstown, in the chapel of Walsh University in North Canton, the release stated.

Shori’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25 at The Cathedral of St. Columba in Youngstown. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m.,  preceding the funeral Mass on Monday at the cathedral.
