AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The “Kids Shine 4 a Cure Kite Festival” took place on Sunday at Austintown Township Park to raise awareness for autism.

Austintown trustees donated the kites for the event, which has become a tradition in the Valley.

“I met a child that has autism and has cancer, and I didn’t think that was possible,” said Brenda Rider from A Way With Words Foundation. “It’s everywhere. It’s not just limited to a certain family…it’s everywhere, and this is what helps.”

The event also featured a “1 Mile Matters” walk where people could carry the shoes of someone with autism to symbolically walk with them in their world.
