CAMPBELL, Ohio (WYTV) – Campbell Police are searching for a person who reportedly fired several shots at officers just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Patrolman Robert Curtis said he was on Jackson Street Wednesday morning responding to a call of an unattended child, when several shots were fired at him and another officer from a wooded area on Booker Street.

Curtis said he spotted the shooter for a second and described him as a black male wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

“You heard gunshots, and five other gunshots, rapid fire, just go off,” he said. “Probably about the second shot, myself and the second officer dropped down and gained cover.”

Curtis said a perimeter was set up around the wooded the area and a K-9 unit led them to a Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority public housing area, but the suspect was not found.

According to a police report, people living on Jean Street reported hearing gunshots but said they didn’t see anyone.
