WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Environmental Protection Agency was called out to investigate an oil spill into the Mahoning River.

The Warren Fire Department was out at the scene of the spill, in the 500 block of Tod Ave. on Thursday afternoon. Firefighters said it is unknown just how much oil has spilled, although it appears to be extensive.

They got the call at 9:45 a.m. Thursday from a Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority worker, who was at an apartment on Buckeye Street. The man reported seeing a sheen in the river.

Firefighters are working to contain the spill but said there is no threat to the drinking water.
