MERCER CO., Pa. (WYTV) – Families in need will now be able to receive free milk in Mercer County, as part of the first statewide charitable fresh milk program.

The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County is handing out the milk, supplied by Dean’s Dairy. The milk is being supplied by the Fill a Glass of Hope program, a partnership formed among Feeding Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, Mid-Atlantic Dairy and agriculture partners and business leaders. The program is funded through grants and sponsors.

Workers at the food warehouse says it was an emotional day, being able to supply its clients with milk, something that many take for granted.

“When you need help, and you don’t have enough food… We are able to give this milk now that is so often asked for. It’s a great feeling,” said Mimi Prada, spokeswoman for the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.

So far, the warehouse has been able to provide for 200 families, but the organization wants to keep the program growing. The warehouse is asking for donations and says $1 provides eight servings of milk.
