Senior Service Day: Giving back to the Newton Falls community

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WYTV) – Seniors at Newton Falls High School got out of the classroom and into the community Thursday.

Students worked diligently to spruce up Veteran’s Park by planting trees and painting trash cans, all for an event called Senior Service Day.

Organizers say it’s a great way for the kids to give back to the community that has supported them.

“The kids volunteer, we don’t make it mandatory, and we’ve never had people stay back at the school. They want to be out here, they want to serve their community. Great turnout for the last four years,” said Peter Shelby, an English teacher at the high school.

Local businesses helped donate supplies to make the program possible.
