NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – WYTV has been receiving phone calls and messages on Facebook from concerned parents about canceled games this week for the Niles Youth Soccer League (NYSL).
Officials with the NYSL are calling it a miscommunication error, saying they initially told the city’s parks department their season would start on May 14.
“It was not the city’s fault. It was miscommunication,” said Brian Erwin, vice president of the NYSL.
He said they tried moving the games up by a week to get started early, because their season typically starts during the first week of May.
“We didn’t give the parks department enough notice to get out here to prepare the fields, so unfortunately we had to cancel all the games this week because they just did not have the time to get out here and do the job,” Erwin said.
Erwin also said the canceled games have been re-worked into the schedules, so each team in each age group will still play 12 games this season.
“Everything was going as scheduled as far as we knew, the original schedule like I said, and when they redid the schedule they never notified us about the schedule change,” said Mark Holmes of the Niles Parks Department.
