Police investigating dog shot, killed Saturday in Mercer County

Police are asking for information on who shot and killed a pet dog in Sandy Creek Twp. on Saturday.

SANDY CREEK TWP., Pa. (WYTV) – Pennsylvania State Police are asking for help in finding a person who shot a pet dog on Salem Road.

According to a police report, a woman let the family’s three dogs out around 7 a.m. Saturday. When one of the owners came back outside from in the house, she saw only her two of the three dogs were in front of the house.

That is when the family heard a gunshot.

After an hour of searching for the third dog, the family found it dead in a ditch with a single gunshot wound. The wound appeared to be from a rifle or pistol, according to police.
