Local club donates bikes to inner city kids in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A local cycling club donated a dozen children’s bikes to the United Way Success After Six program to help put smiles on the faces of some inner city children later this month.

The Out Spokin Wheelmen raised the money through two bike rides.

Six boys and six girls will be awarded the bikes based on their academic, behavior and attendance records for the program.

“They will be ecstatic because for these kids, this is a luxury. They probably never had a bike and wouldn’t have a chance to get a bike,” said United Way Director Bob Hannon. “What we are mostly excited about is they had to earn it.”

Over a hundred children take part in Success After Six, which offers tutoring and after-school support to kindergarten to 3rd grade students.

In the past, the Out Spokin Wheelmen donated bikes to the Rich Center for Autism and battered women’s shelters.
