Walking in street in Warren ends in arrest

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Warren woman was arrested and taken to the Trumbull County Jail after police say she failed to comply with an order to walk on the sidewalk.

Lazaynah Smith, 22, and a male were walking along Colonial St. S.E. at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday when an officer on patrol said a vehicle had to go around the couple into the oncoming lane of traffic to make it through the intersection.

The officer said he rolled down his window and told the couple they needed to walk on the sidewalk. The male complied but Smith did not, according to the police report. The officer said he overheard Smith saying to the male, “I’m about to get (expletive) off,” and continued walking in the street.

The officer continued to prompt Smith to use the sidewalks but she refused, arguing with the officer and telling him she was not going to get a ticket, according to the report.

After multiple attempts to stop Smith, she finally complied and stopped by the police cruiser where she was issued a citation for walking along highways and obstructing official business. She was taken to the Trumbull County Jail where she was processed.

Smith pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Monday. She is due back in court June 28.
