Former Cafaro aid appears in court on theft charges

Jonathan Wike is facing charges of grand theft and theft from a person in a protected class.

The former director of State Senator Capri Cafaro's district office has been indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury. Jonathan Wike, of Niles, is facing charges of grand theft and theft from a person in a protected class.

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – The former director of State Senator Capri Cafaro’s district office was back in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday.

Jonathan Wike is facing charges of grand theft and theft from a person in a protected class. He was in court for a pretrial hearing, which was reset for another day in July.

Cafaro fired Wike in July, after she learned about an ongoing criminal investigation. Wike is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from both Cafaro and his 89-year-old grandmother.

Wike remains free on bond.
