COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WYTV) – Remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty, police officers packed Columbiana’s Das Dutch Village Inn Thursday afternoon.
Those from about 10 different departments from across the Valley remembered the 128 officers who were killed on the job last year.
The main speaker was Cheryl Railsback, a Salem native whose son was shot and killed working as a sheriff’s deputy in Texas.
Railsback said it’s important to recognize the sacrifices police officers make to keep others safe.
“Every one of them puts their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” she said. “And whatever I can do to help them stay safe, that’s my goal.”
Railsback now runs The Shane Detwiler Foundation in honor of her son. The organization donated $5,000 to the Salem Police Department for body cameras last year.
