Niles businesswoman wins prestigious award from Regional Chamber

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Regional Chamber of Commerce handed out its top honor to a Niles businesswoman Thursday night.

Kathy Cook, who is the president of St. Joseph Warren Hospital, is this year’s ATHENA Award winner.

The ATHENA Award is given to one area businesswoman each year who has demonstrated excellence in her chosen career, provided leadership in the community and mentored or contributed to the growth of other professional women.

Cook started her career as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in 1983. She became president of St. Joe’s in 2013 and is responsible for bringing Akron Children’s Hospital to Trumbull County. Cook is also the executive leader for Oncology Services in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

In addition to her work in healthcare, Cook serves on the Kent State Trumbull advisory board, is a member of the executive board of Trumbull 100 and on the board of Northeast Ohio Adoption Services.

There were 21 nominees for this year’s ATHENA award.
