Lowellville, OH (WYTV) – It’s hard to find a student-athlete more involved than Courtney Conklin. The Lowellville senior is a four sport athlete, an accomplished musician, and valedictorian of her class. She’s speaking at graduation in a few weeks on the topic of Confidence, and she’s got plenty of it. Making Courtney an easy choice for our Student Athlete of the Week.
“It’s not only having the talent,” said Conklin. “It’s the work that exceeds the talent.”
Courtney has a work ethic like few others. She’s a 3 year captain on the softball team, hitting over .600 her senior season. She’s also an All Conference performer in Volleyball, Basketball, and track.
“Honestly, for all my sports, I love the team aspect. That’s my favorite thing.”
Always team-first, Courtney has certainly excelled personally. She set the school record for shotput with a throw of over 35 feet, and holds the kills and digs records in volleyball. She’s also a standout in the classroom, leading her senior class with a 4.0 GPA.
“I study every night. I work as hard as I can, because, for me, a B isn’t good enough. And, I’ve kinda been taught that school comes first no matter what.”
Outside of school and sports, piano is a great release for Courtney. In fact, she’ll graduate at highest level of the National Guild.
“What I really like is that when I sit down at the piano, and I start to play a song, and I finish it, and I don’t realize that I even played it. Because I was so into the piece that it just completely swept me away.”
On top of all that, Courtney also has over 260 volunteer hours, and is President of Student Council.
“I have a passion to help people, but my faith has really pushed that as well because you have a gift from God, and to give it back to the community in whatever you can do.”
