Contractor to begin work on Lisbon St. in East Liverpool

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WYTV) – The Ohio Department of Transportation hired a contractor to begin repairs on the landslide in East Liverpool that is causing three houses to collapse.

Alan Stone Co. Inc. from Cutler, Ohio will begin mobilizing equipment on Wednesday. It hopes to complete the $1.7 million retaining wall project by the end of July.

On Monday, the state took over the project to demolish the houses and restore Lisbon Street.

“This work obviously exceeds the city’s routine maintenance responsibilities, and we have engineers and professionals who are trained to handle these technical processes and requirements to obtain as much of the federal funding available as possible,” said ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Lloyd MacAdam.

East Liverpool officials learned on Monday that additional funding had been allocated, and the project won’t cost the city anything.

Besides local traffic, all other drivers are asked to avoid Lisbon Street (SR 267) and follow the designated detour route.
