Youngstown man remains jailed on $1 million bond

Bernard Barnes remains jailed after appearing in court for shooting a man in the stomach earlier in May

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown man remains jailed on a $1 million bond after appearing in court Tuesday morning on murder charges.

Bernard Barnes, 57, was indicted earlier in May for the shooting that resulted in the death of Kenneth Evans, 57.

The victim was found at a home in the 1900 block of Manhattan Ave. on the city’s west side. He had been shot in the stomach and died of his wounds a few hours later at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Barnes was arrested at a home on W. LaClede Ave., about the same time Evans died.

Prosecutors said the pair had been arguing over a woman.
