POLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – Members of American Legion Mahoning Valley Post 15 were joined by local girl scouts, boy scouts and cub scouts to place flags on the graves of United States Military Veterans.
About 1,500 different grave sites between three different cemeteries in Poland were visited.
Members of the community as well as veterans came out to honor deceased veterans.
“You know, if they wouldn’t have put their lives on the line when they were fighting in the wars, we wouldn’t be standing here doing this interview. And I just hope that, the kids that are here, their parents can instill in them and that they can learn and understand. And, maybe when I’m gone, that those kids will be here running it, and they can do it and pass it on because too many things go away or are forgotten, and this is one that must never be forgotten,” said Jeff Vrabel Sr., commander of the Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 in Poland.
Vrabel continued to say he was proud of the community turnout who just wanted to come out and do a good thing.
