BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – There are just three days of school left at Boardman’s Glenwood Middle School, and guidance counselors said it’s an important time to talk to the students about saying no to drugs.
On Thursday morning, the school held a Drug Prevention Presentation for all the eighth graders. During the assembly, students also learned how to handle situations if their friends or family members get caught up in an addiction. The program also touched on careers in the drug addiction fields.
Barbara Fonderlin, the school’s guidance counselor, said she wants to make sure kids are equipped to handle any situation they come across.
“Experiences they might have and facts that they need to have as they go into the community. They attend parties as teenagers. We want them to be prepared to make good choices so they can be successful in their lives,” she said.
Experts from the Addiction Outreach Center and Mahoning County Deputy Coroner Dr. Joseph Ohr were speakers.
Staff at the school said it wants to make the assembly an annual event.
