Police: Youngstown woman fired gun during fight between children

Renada Torres, 34, is charged with felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability and discharging a firearm within city limits

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown woman was arrested after witnesses reported that she fired a gun at another woman during a fight between their children.

Police were called to a home on Gluck Street around 6 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report that a gunshot had been fired.

The alleged victim told police that Renada Torres came to her house with her son and another juvenile to fight her son. She said the two boys fought and Torres then pulled a black handgun from her purse and began waving it at her saying, “You ain’t gonna threaten my son,” according to a Youngstown Police report.

The woman told police she told her children to go into the house when Torres pointed the gun at her, firing a shot from about 15 feet away. The shot missed, and Torres and the two children she was with walked away.

Police said Torres was arrested near Oak Street and Early Road, and officers said she had a revolver in her purse with one spent shell casing.

She was charged with felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability and discharging a firearm within city limits. An arraignment on the charges was scheduled on Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
