DeWine suing imprisoned Poland businessman for dumping toxic waste

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WYTV) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is suing the man who pleaded guilty two years ago to dumping oil-field waste into a storm sewer, which ended up in the Mahoning River.

The goal is to get financial penalties from Ben Lupo, of Poland, along with two of his companies and three of his employees.

Lupo was accused of ordering workers at Hardrock Excavating LLC to repeatedly dump drilling mud and brine intended for deep injection into the storm sewer.

He is serving a 28-month sentence and is set to be released in October.
