FARRELL, Pa. (WYTV) – Failure to reach a contract agreement had steelworkers in Farrell picketing Tuesday afternoon.
It has been several months since discussions began between the United Steelworkers District 10 Local 1016-03 union and NLMK in Farrell. Workers said they are fed up and picketed near the plant on Roemer Boulevard.
The last contract expired April 2, but the workers have continued putting in their time. Union representatives said they want to work, but they say they deserve a fair contract. They added that healthcare is a major issue.
“All we’re asking is please don’t change our healthcare. Leave our healthcare alone. We know we’re not going to get the raises we’ve received in the past, but we don’t want any changes to our healthcare,” said William Bilbis, staff representative at USW Local 1016-03.
The picketing is set to continue until an agreement is reached.
NLMK Pennsylvania is a prime supplier of finished carbon and alloy specialty products, as well as Hot Dip Galvanized and Galvannealed Products, according to the company’s website.
