BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – With the Cleveland Cavaliers and Pittsburgh Penguins in the finals of their respective sports, local bars are preparing for large crowds turning out to watch the games.
Chad Scianna, owner of Chad Anthony’s Italian Grille & Pub in Boardman, says business the next couple of nights could help boost his bottom line.
“Especially when the games start a little bit later, because now your crowd stays through the evening to watch the game, especially if it’s close.”
Despite the stormy weather Monday night, Penguins fans gathered at Magic Tree Pub & Eatery.
“They were in here with all their gear on, you know, ready to watch the game. The storm was fun because it interrupted the game a little bit, but it came back on and everybody had a great time,” Jeff Gordon said.
While the Pens could claim their fourth Stanley Cup Thursday night in Pittsburgh, bar owners are hoping for a turnaround Wednesday evening for the Cavs in Cleveland.
“Just everybody has an affection for Cleveland, being right down the street. An Ohio team finally makes it there again and everybody’s just really excited,” Scianna said.
Besides drawing nice crowds, managers say special events give businesses a chance to showcase themselves.
“If they bring a friend that hasn’t been around…now they can see our menu, see all of our items and we hope to keep them as a regular guest,” Gordon said.
Regardless of what happens in the games, the next couple of nights are sure to be a win for local bars.
