YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Parishioners at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown celebrated 90 years in their building on Wednesday.
The church was dedicated on June 8, 1926.
One of the church members, Bill Lawson, is the executive director of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and gave a presentation about the history of the neighborhood surrounding St. Pat’s, how it developed and why the church is so important to the area.
“It was built as a sign and a symbol of the Roman Catholic Church and the parish and its importance to the people that live here on the south side,” Lawson said.
Lawson said he hopes Wednesday’s celebration will inspire people to learn more about what occurred in Youngstown in the 1920s, when the building was originally dedicated.
