Former Austintown Middle School coach sentenced in child porn case

Rex Bosley was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A former Austintown Middle School coach has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on child pornography charges.

Rex Bosley was arrested in August 2015 after an investigation by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. He was charged with 15 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance.

He appeared in Judge Shirley Christian’s courtroom on Wednesday for sentencing, receiving six months in jail for each of the charges to be served consecutively. He received credit for six days in jail that were served.

Bosley also has to register as a Tier 2 sex offender, meaning he must register his address with the County Sheriff every 180 days for a period of 25 years.

Bosley was employed as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Austintown Middle School prior to his arrest. The crimes did not involve students at the middle school, according to investigators.

The school said he passed an Ohio BCI and an FBI background check before being hired.
