YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown Park Director Bob Burke has been working on a plan to keep children off of the streets.
Summer has begun, and a lot of children are out of school, but Youngstown Police are urging parents to make sure their kids are not out past curfew. YPD has been on patrol since 11:00 p.m. Tuesday doing a curfew sweep.
A Youngstown city ordinance states children under the age of 17 cannot be out on the streets between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. the next day unless they are with a guardian.
Burke’s plan is intended to help the ordinance by giving kids something to do.
“The reason they get in trouble is because they say there’s nothing to do. So my job is to create things to do,” Burke said.
Burke will be hosting activities for children at parks around the city.
A schedule of activities will be announced soon.
