CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – A traveling petting zoo visited Canfield Sunday at White House Fruit Farm.

Christine Coler’s mother started the mobile zoo in the back of her station wagon in 1982. Coler and her husband took over recently, but transformed a trailer to include some bigger animals.

Recently, an alpaca, several goats and a tortoise have joined the team.

Coler said they got the idea after a rainy day at another petting zoo, and hoped their trailer would be able to withstand Mother Nature.

“So we’ve come up with this beautiful, portable traveling unit that’s all self-contained, can be set up on blacktop and it’s already been tested out through Mother Nature a couple weekends ago with all of the rain we had. It poured on us and it turned out beautiful. There were over 30 people underneath,” Coler said.

She said she plans on attending a lot of festivals in the area this summer.
