LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – The mother of a girl killed in a Liberty Township crash over the weekend has died, according to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.
The victims have been identified as Monica Griffin, 35, and her daughter, 15-year-old Elyssa Griffin.
Monica and Elyssa Griffin were in an SUV that went off the left side of Interstate 80 eastbound on Friday. Investigators said Monica Griffin swerved back onto the road and struck a semi truck. The car rolled over several times, coming to a stop on its side.
Emily Griffin, a freshman at Sharon High School, was killed. Monica Griffin and another female passenger, who was not identified, were taken to the hospital.
The other passenger, a teenager, suffered only minor injuries from the crash. Monica Griffin died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
