Police looking for shooter who injured 9-year-old in Warren

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – Police are investigating a shooting in Warren that injured a 9-year-old boy.

Officers were called to Scott Street near Plymouth Place on Sunday around 4:30 p.m. about shots fired in the area.

A woman flagged the cruiser down and told police that her 9-year-old nephew had been shot and was on his way to the hospital.

Upon arrival to the hospital, the officers learned that the boy hadn’t been shot, but was injured by shattered glass during the shooting.

His mother told police that she and her two children were in a vehicle picking up her sister, when an unknown person started shooting at them. She said a bullet just missed her.

Thinking her son had been shot, she went straight to the hospital. He was treated for cuts on his arm and torso, and was released later that day.

The mother hadn’t seen who shot the vehicle, but the aunt described the shooter as a black male, 6’2″ tall, wearing a white t-shirt and gray shorts with stars. She said he had a small, dark semi-automatic handgun.
