Youngstown to start using new garbage trucks

The new trucks are expected to go into service by July

People living in Youngstown will soon begin seeing the city's new garbage trucks on the streets.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – People living in Youngstown will soon begin seeing the city’s new garbage trucks on the streets.

The first of eight brand new trucks have arrived recently, with the rest expected to arrive by the end of the week. They’re now being stored at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

City leaders decided not to renew contracts with Waste Management for trash pick-up after costs jumped significantly. Right now, the city is renting garbage trucks, but the new ones should go into service by the first of July.

Residents will also start receiving new wheeled trash carts around the middle of next month.
