1 dead in New Castle shooting

No suspects have been named

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WYTV) – One person is dead following a shooting in New Castle.

A man was found about 8 p.m. Sunday with a fatal gunshot wound inside a car near the intersection of South Walnut and Chestnut Streets. He was identified as 26-year-old Vaughn Slaughter from Detroit, Michigan.

Slaughter was found sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle. Police said he had multiple gunshots wounds to the head and neck.

No one else was in the car.

Slaughter had a criminal record in Detroit for carrying a concealed weapon in 2008 and narcotics possession charges in 2014. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to accessory to a felony and was sentenced to probation.

Police have not released any other information in the case and have not named a suspect.
