NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers committed a season-high four errors and a season high 10 walks in an 11-5 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs Mondat night at Eastwood Field.
Mahoning Valley was seeking its first series win of the young season.
Batavia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Muckdogs took advantage of two walks and two errors. Kris Goodman would notch the only RBI of the inning on a fielder’s choice.
The Scrappers cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Emmanuel Tapia singled to start the inning. With two outs he would come around to score on a Grofi Cruz RBI single.
In the top of the fourth inning Batavia added two more runs, benefitting from a walk and an error.
Corey Bird was credited with the only RBI of the inning with a base hit.
Batavia put the game out of reach with six runs over the final three innings of the game. Over those three innings the Muckdogs drew five walks, and took advantage of another error to push the score out to 11-2.
Mahoning Valley would plate three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Gabriel Mejia drove in a run with an RBI single, while Alexis Pantoja tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Micah Miniard (0-1) took the loss after starting and going 3.1 innings. He allowed five runs, just one earned, on four hits. Miniard walked four and struck out one.
The Scrappers (2-9) host the Auburn Doubledays (7-4) beginning Tuesday at Eastwood Field. The Scrappers will send Triston McKenzie (0-1) to the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
