YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, a driver crashed through a telephone pole then into a home on Glenwood Avenue.

Driver Jabraill Garner and passenger Vincenzo Daltorio told police they lost control of their jeep while trying to avoid a car that pulled out in front of them.

But, witnesses told police there was no other car on the road at the time, and that they were driving too fast.

Both men were not hurt, but a transformer was on the ground, lines were snapped and power was cut in the surrounding area.

The front of the home was damaged, with the car taking out most of the front porch and part of the front wall by the garage.

Neighbor Steven Lowrey who witnessed the crash said even after all that, the driver did not stop there.

“He had hit the pole. After he hit the pole, he wound up swerving, trying to get control of it. He hit the house. Whenever he hit the house he had tried to leave, and then he just wasn’t getting nowhere,” Lowrey said.

The driver did not make it very far.

Lowrey said that they hit the house so hard that the shocks broke and had fallen out of the car.

Police took Garner and Daltorio into custody, both men have been charged with making false police reports.

According to Ohio Edison’s website, power has been restored to the affected areas.
