Driver killed, child thrown from motorcycle in Vienna

The passenger was wearing a helmet; the driver was not.


VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – A motorcycle driver was killed and his 12-year-old passenger injured in an accident Wednesday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Daniel E. Stevens, 49, of Niles, was traveling west on State Route 82 at about 8:51 p.m. when he lost control near Sodom Hutchings Road and drove off the right side of the highway. The motorcycle overturned, striking several trees throwing Stevens and the child from the motorcycle.

Both victims were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Stevens was pronounced dead at the hospital. The child was treated for what police say were “non-incapacitating” injuries.

The passenger was wearing a helmet; Stevens was not.

The crash remains under investigation.
