YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Mahoning County Commissioners were given an update on the multi-million dollar restoration project for the courthouse downtown.
Construction workers are making progress on the huge effort that involves repairing the hundred-year-old landmark’s roof and facade.
At this point, workers have a September 30 deadline to have everything completed, including the return of the courthouse’s iconic copper statues on the roof.
“There is, though, an issue with the terracotta, and it’s custom-made,” said. “A lot has to happen to reproduce that. That could be one thing that might slow it down.”
If everything stays on schedule, commissioners say they will hold a public viewing of the restored statues before they are hoisted back atop the courthouse roof later this summer.
