Austintown schools swaps land with township

The township traded the land that contains softball fields and the 9/11 memorial park

The land across from Austintown Middle School now belongs to Austintown Local Schools.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The land across from Austintown Middle School now belongs to Austintown Local Schools.

The township traded the land that contains softball fields and the 9/11 memorial park. In return, the school district gave up the land that used to contain the old Woodside and Davis elementary schools.

The land swap solves a problem for the schools – what to do with land that used to be home to old neighborhood schools.

“When it comes to sell that property, it’s not the most advantageous place to buy a property, especially for commercial, because it wouldn’t be zoned that way. So it’s really worked out for us,” said Austintown Schools Superintendent Vince Colaluca.

Township trustees say they will eventually build neighborhood parks where the old schools once stood.
