Bond set at $2.5 million for Salem murder suspect

A preliminary hearing was set for 1 p.m. July 28

Terry Strosnyder is charged in the murder of Athena Nicholas.

LISBON, Ohio (WYTV) – Bond was set at $2.5 million for a man accused of killing a woman and then shooting himself in Salem.

Terry Strosnyder, 49, was charged with the murder of 46-year-old Athena Nicolas. He appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court Friday morning.

Nicolas was found Sunday morning lying in the backyard of a house on E. Second Street. Strosnyder was lying next to her with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Strosnyder was treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital, released and immediately taken into custody.

Investigators said a large amount of drugs and weapons were found in the Salem home during the investigation.

Strosnyder will be given a court-appointed attorney, and a preliminary hearing was set for 1 p.m. July 28.
