YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A free community health fair was held Saturday, which gave people in the Mahoning Valley a chance to get free health screenings and learn about available health resources.

It was put on by Taft Promise Neighborhood and the 6th Ward Citizens Coalition, and held at the Metro Assembly of God Church.

Organizers said they looked forward to what the health fair had to offer.

“Our role as a citizen’s coalition is to try and improve quality of life. We believe a healthier you means a happy you and a more prosperous you, so this is all a part of creating healthier neighborhoods,” said Dario Hunter of the 6th Ward Citizens Coalition.

The health fair was free and open to the public. Mercy Health held free health screenings. There were also fitness activities, including Zumba, and healthy food, games and giveaways.

“They need to take a more proactive and preventative approach to their healthcare, so that maybe they can reduce doctor visits and so this way it gives them an opportunity to come out and see what the community has to offer, and get some ideas on how to be healthy,” said Holly Henry of the 6th Ward Citizens Coalition.

Taft Promise Neighborhood and the Citizens Coalition were excited about the turnout and will determine whether this will become an annual event.
