Sharon, Farrell residents have water service following main break

The water main break has been fixed, and customers have water service as of 8 a.m. Saturday

SHARON, Pa. (WYTV) – A water main broke in Sharon between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday.

Several homes in the Sharon and Farrell areas were without water for hours. Some parts of Masury were affected as well.

The break was in a PennDot construction zone on South Dock Street between East Budd and Malleable streets.

The 16-inch pipe was capped off by 1 a.m., but people in the area were still experiencing either no or very low water pressure.

Aqua Pennsylvania said due to the size of the line, a large amount of water was lost in a small amount of time, which took time to replenish.

No causes have been determined.

According to Gretchen Toner, manager of Strategic Communications at Aqua America, the water main break has been fixed, and customers have water service as of 8 a.m. Saturday.

She said the Ohio EPA doesn’t require a precautionary boil advisory, but the company is required to take and test water samples to ensure that no contamination took place.

Toner said they sent in test results and hope to get them back sometime Sunday morning.
